Barbara H. Peterson

Barbara H. Peterson, 83, of Westvale, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at Iroquois Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she graduated from St. Anthony's High School. Barbara was employed for over 25 years with Community General Hospital. She loved spending time at her camp on Lake Ontario, she thought it was the most beautiful place on Earth. Above all, Barbara loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Eugene R. Peterson, in 1993.

Surviving are her daughters, Karen (Jim Cain) DeJoseph of Onondaga Hill, Julie (John) Koegel of Groveland, MA and Jennifer (Scott) McDowell of Jamesville; sons, Jeffrey (Michele) of Jamesville and Michael (Brian Hollenback) of Delray Beach, FL; and grandchildren, Laura (Matthew) McArdle, Cassandra and Bobby Koegel and Matthew and Geena McDowell.

Barbara was also predeceased by her longtime companion, Thomas Ennis, who passed away this year.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the care and compassion Barbara received from the staff on the third floor at Iroquois Nursing Home.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, June 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Barbara will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Association of CNY, 4915½ W. Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088.
