Dr. Timothy Robert Gallivan

January 23, 1932 — December 8, 2017

Dr. Timothy Robert Gallivan, 85, of Camillus, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus after a brief illness. Born in Syracuse, Tim was raised in Westvale. He was a loyal 1950 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, a 1954 graduate of his beloved Niagara University and a proud 1958 graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Dentistry.

Tim’s love and knowledge of dentistry made him a respected professional in his field. Whether in his own dental practice in Fairmount or in his role as the lead dentist at Marcy and CNY Psychiatric Centers, Tim’s reputation was that of a consummate, compassionate individual who always put the needs of his patients first.

Tim was a member of the American Dental Association, Fifth District Dental Society, and the Onondaga County Dental Society. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.

Tim was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He had a quick Irish wit and a love for watching sports and attending sporting events. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His generous and humble nature will be missed by all who knew him.

Tim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Gloria (Simmons) Gallivan, in 2002; mother, Marguerite (Cloonan) Gallivan, in 1932; father, Timothy M. Gallivan, in 1972; brother, John R. Gallivan, in 1986; sister, Mary (Gallivan) Colbert, in 2015; and special aunt, Julia (Gallivan) Rowe, in 1988.

Surviving are his daughter, Maureen A. Gallivan of Camillus; nieces, Kathleen A. Reschke of Syracuse, Mary (Gallivan) Demperio of Marcellus and Irene (Gallivan) O’Donnell of Camillus; nephews, Michael B. Colbert of Camillus, Michael A. Reschke of Satellite Beach, FL, Timothy M. Gallivan of Camillus and John R. Gallivan of Elbridge; special cousin, Julia (Rowe) Fletcher of Syracuse; sisters-in-law, Patricia Reschke of Syracuse, Catherine Sopchak of Syracuse and Mary Gallivan of Jordan; brother-in-law, Richard Reschke of Syracuse; as well as additional nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family offers their deepest gratitude to Dr. James Blanchfield and nurses, Sheena King and Dominique Brown of Crouse Medical Practice, for many years of compassionate, dedicated and personalized care as well as Dr. Richard Sturr and the staff of Concepts Dental for their unfailing attentiveness and kindness. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Vincent Frechette, Dr. Matthew Glidden and the entire staff of the 6th floor of Upstate University Hospital Community Campus for their heartfelt and professional care during Tim’s final journey home. We are so grateful for each of you.

Maureen wishes to thank all of the family and friends who have stayed close to her through acts of unwavering love, loyalty and friendship throughout this difficult time.

Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, December 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A celebration of Tim’s life will be Thursday, December 14 at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, where a funeral Mass will be held. Tim will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, DeWitt.

Due to severe allergies, the family requests that flowers not be sent to the funeral home or church. The family does request that donations be made to the Timothy R.
