Alex C. McIntyre

April 1, 1932 — June 8, 2020

Alex C. McIntyre, 88, has put his paint brush down for the last time. The final canvas of his life was full of bright colors, a flare for jokes and a little abstract.

Originally from Syracuse, Alex graduated from Vocational High School with the distinction of class clown. He was a veteran of the Korean War where his duties included guarding the communion wine. After he was discharged, he moved to Rochester. Almost immediately becoming the “Mayor of Park Ave,” Alex had his own park bench. Meetings were held with residents of the park including trash can Sally. Many things were discussed while drinking Budweiser out of a bag. Alex’s life changed when he met Bill, Bill gave Alex stability and a beer mug with a bell on it. They spent the next 40 years together, it was the perfect union. Summers were spent at Jones Pond where they had many friends. Alex was known as “mother” for his protective instincts. Though we don’t know how well he did because we have only seen the pictures. Alex was an accomplished local artist and retired from Monroe Hospital. He loved people that were unique and made him laugh, but he really loved people who would listen to his jokes.

Alex was predeceased by his husband, C. William Reed, in 2019; as well as his twin brother, Harold; and brother, Stanley.

Surviving are his niece, Laura (Steve) Mattice of Camillus; nephews, David (Michelle) McIntyre of Lafayette, Robert (Lisa) McIntyre of Syracuse, Paul (Lydia) McIntyre of Hilton and Howard McIntyre of Tupper Lake; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be held at a later date. Alex will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
