Anthony DeRose

June 24, 1925 — November 30, 2008

Anthony DeRose, 83, of Fairmount, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, November 30, 2008. Born in Syracuse, on Wednesday, June 24, 1925, he was the son of Nicholas and Maria DeRose. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse-Westvale area. Employed by General Motors Corp., Anthony was supervisor of the tool room and retired after 30 years. He was also owner and operator of Tony's Fine Food at the NYS Fair for 20 years. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Christ the King Council 4114, he was Past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the West End Survivors Club and Bishop Ludden's Booster Club. Anthony was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew DeRose, three sisters and four brothers. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Edna Doyle; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and James Smith and Kathleen and Sam Gonzalez, all of Syracuse; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Linda DeRose Jr. of Oswego and Daniel and Kathy DeRose of Williamsville; sister, Grace Obit; grandchildren, Jamie (Ben) Norris, Anthony III (Stephanie), Timothy (Jodi), Benjamin, Patrick, Ryan, Daniel, Maria and Emily; great-grandchildren, Nicholas DeRose and Christian Norris; many nieces and nephews and several cousins. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to Holy Family Church Food Pantry, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219. God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, Come to me. With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
