Betty (Gonyea) McLaughlin

March 28, 1927 — June 4, 2020

Betty (Gonyea) McLaughlin, 93, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Thursday at home. She graduated from Central High School and was employed for 18 years as an accounting supervisor with the NY Telephone Co. before retiring in 1964. Betty enjoyed collecting antiques and playing bridge.

She had a love for New York State and enjoyed Syracuse University basketball and football, and the New York Yankees. Betty had a generous heart and was always giving to others.

Sharp-minded, she was always eager to share her thoughts about daily local and world events. Betty was a communicant of Holy Family Church and maintained many friendships through monthly luncheons with the Golden Girls who were the women from the NY Telephone Co. accounting department. She found joy in the simple pleasures of reading, the world of finance, and especially being at home with her loving family.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Thomas; her parents, Kathryn, and Harold Gonyea; sister, Mary Katherine “DeDe” Gonyea Ballard; and her grandparents, William and Mary Gonyea, who she considered angels.

Surviving are her daughters, Pamela (Robert Sollish) McLaughlin of Syracuse and Elizabeth McLaughlin of Camillus; niece, Kathy Rozzano; grand nieces and nephews; and her special friend Helen Salanger.

Services will be private. Betty will be laid to rest in St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Food Pantry, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219 or to the Samaritan Center, 215 N. State St., Syracuse, NY 13203.
