Betty J. Smith

Betty Jane Smith, of Fairmount, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Crouse Hospital. “BJ”, as she was known, was born in Monmouth, IL. A lab technician for 25 years, she retired from Crouse Hospital. She loved gardens and gardening and won many awards for her plants and flowers. A communicant and volunteer at Holy Family Church, she planned, planted and cared for the flowers beds around the church for several years. She was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Henry J. Smith; daughter, Eileen Smith of Helena, MT; sons, Edward of Webster, Nathaniel of Boston, MA, David of Chickamauga, GA and Andrew of Carrolton, TX; sister, Joan Welch of Lake Placid, FL; and grandchildren, Eric, Dana, Brianna, Cecilia, Felicity, Lucy, Cyprian and Abraham. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, March 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Thursday, March 27 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be private.
