Dorothy Louise Failoni

January 2, 1924 — June 20, 2014

Dorothy Louise Failoni, 90, of Solvay, passed away peacefully Friday, June 20, 2014 at home. A lifetime resident of Solvay, she possessed a deep faith in God, extraordinary love and devotion to family and quiet grace. Dorothy was a listener and giver who lived her life with a gentle spirit, open heart, kind words and soft smile. One of her many gifts was to make everyone she met feel accepted, valued and appreciated. Dorothy loved her church, Holy Family in Fairmount, taking care of family and home, sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts and ceramics. Over the years, contributions to her "angel" Christmas tree exceeded 400 and each one was carefully labeled, dated and cherished. Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Mark David Failoni, on February 5, 2014 and brother-in-law, Henry Bondoni, on February 19, 2010. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, John E. Failoni; daughter, Doreen Marie Failoni of Syracuse; son and daughter-in-law, John Jeffrey and Yamila Solana of Clermont, FL; daughter-in-law, Karen Allen Failoni of Syracuse; grandchildren, Michael William Failoni, Justin and new bride Sarah Morawa Failoni, Jamie Failoni (Jonathan) De La Rionda, Lynette Alverez (Freddie) Matos and Alyssa Alverez; great-granddaughter, Leah Marie Matos; beloved sister, Iva (Fred) Frachetti of Lakeland; caring sister-in-law, Bernie Bondoni; best friend, Carla Bevivino; several nieces, a nephew and cousins, including Irene Salvaterra, steadfast protector. Cynthia Frachetti and Deborah (Tony) Grosso were amazingly devoted nieces to their “Zia”, especially in recent years. Dorothy's heart was full of love and appreciation for all those who shared their light with hers. She expressed the desire to go home to the Lord as she lived, simply and quietly. For this reason, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately in Holy Family Church. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. Since prayers, thoughts and deeds for others were always first and foremost for Dorothy, in lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness in her memory. (Remember...we love you, too.)
