Edward R. Popcun

July 12, 1921 — June 26, 2018

Edward R. Popcun 96, of Westvale, passed away peacefully at home on his 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, surrounded by his family. He was born in Monessen, PA to Andrew and Mary Papcun. Ed served in the Navy during WWII. He earned his associate degree in dress design from Pratt Institute in NYC where he designed the wedding gown worn by his bride, Helen Gondusky. Married on June 26, 1948, Ed and Helen moved to Brooklyn to start their life together and then moved to Syracuse in 1950 where they built their house and raised their four children. Ed became a licensed beautician and started his 35-year career. First employed at Fred the Hairstylist at Hotel Syracuse, Ed then ventured out and started his own business, Ed-Mar House of Beauty in Syracuse. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling, refinishing furniture and assisting his children with their home projects. Ed was an honorable, patient man with a strong spirit and always upheld his dignity. He enjoyed an afternoon glass of wine in front of his wood burning fireplace. If family or friends stopped by, you’d always be offered a glass of wine or a beer. One of Ed’s favorite sayings was “it’s five o’clock somewhere.” Edward was a longtime communicant of St. Charles~St. Ann's Parish.

Edward was predeceased by his son, Eddie, in 2017.
