Eileen A. Wykes

Eileen A. Wykes, 94, affectionately known as “Cooker,” of Camillus and Lake George, NY passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at The Centers at St. Camillus surrounded by her loving family. Eileen was born on September 20, 1925 in Albany to the late Dr. William and Elizabeth Burns. After graduating from the Academy of Holy Names, Eileen was the first woman to “man” the information window at Union Station for the New York Central Railroad. Her favorite job was hostessing lunches at her daughter’s restaurant, Morgan’s of Syracuse where her kind nature and humor would always stand out. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and member of the Altar Rosary Society and choir. Eileen enjoyed traveling, shopping, going out to lunch and spending time with her family and friends.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2005; daughter, Barbara Checkosky, in 2017; grandson, Matthew Checkosky, in 2019; sister, Mary Devlin; and brother, William Burns.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Diane (Raymond) Tyska of Liverpool; sons, Richard Wykes and John Wykes, both of Syracuse; grandchildren, Leslie Davis, Michael (Shannon) Tyska and Craig Tyska; great-grandchildren, Jack, Mark, William, Sophie, Rylan and Kassie; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday, December 28 from 11 a.m. to noon at St. Joseph's Church.

A funeral Mass will follow at noon in the church. Eileen will be laid to rest privately in Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, NY.
