Eileen M. Smith, 85, of the village of Camillus, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. Born in Buncrana, County Donegal, Ireland on Saturday, March 6, 1926, she was the daughter of Jack Norman Barnes and Mary Jane McKenna Barnes. She was a graduate of Thornhill Academy in Derry, Ireland. On August 11, 1948, Eileen married her husband, Claude and lived in Dublin, Ireland. In 1957, they moved their family to America and settled in Camillus. Eileen was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church for more than 50 years. She had a great love for horses and dogs, was an avid reader and excellent cook. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Claude Roland Smith, on December 22, 1993; son, Henry, in 2005; and sister, Dorothy McMahon, in 1997. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Kerry Stinson and Claudia Smith, all of Marcellus, Eileen and Nicola Gigante of Merritt Island, Florida, and Mary and Michael Paino of Quechee, Vermont; sister, Mary McAteer of Buncrana, Ireland; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 16 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Eileen will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus. Contributions may be made to the Dominican Monastery, 802 Court St., Syracuse, NY 13208 or to St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
