Eileen Rose Mitchell

Eileen Rose Proven Mitchell of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on February 12, 2022. She was born April 5, 1922 in Brownville, NY, the daughter of Roy and Mabel Rose Proven. She attended Star School, a one room schoolhouse in Perch River, and later graduated from Brownville-Glen Park School. Eileen was one of twelve children and the family operated several farms in the northern NY area. She married the love of her life, Roger M. Mitchell, in Watertown, NY. They moved to Fairmount where Eileen remained for 69 years. She worked at the lunch program at West Genesee School District and later retired from Camillus Cutlery where she assembled jack knives. Eileen was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Camillus and Daughters of the Nile Ilderim Temple. She enjoyed spending many summers at her camp on Clear Lake in Redwood, NY. Eileen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Roger in 1988, and parents, Eileen was predeceased by a grandson, Bradford J. Mitchell Jr.; daughter-in-law, Mary Mitchell; son-in-law, Thomas M Anthony; sisters, Pauline Worden, Marjorie Salisbury, and Betty Proven; and brothers, Walter Proven, Glenn Proven, and Laurence Proven.

She is survived by two sons, Roger M. Mitchell Jr. of Colorado, Bradford J. Mitchell of Syracuse; daughter, Patricia E. Anthony of Redwood, NY; seven grandchildren, Roger M. (Kari) Mitchell lll; Julie (Mike) Villia; Kimberly (James) Vitale; Kelley (Berend) van Toor; Christine (William) McBride; Daniel (Casey) Mitchell; Sharilyn Mitchell; seven great grandchildren, Chase Villia, Chanel Villia, Madison (Nate) Pearson, MacKenzie Vitale, Macy Vitale, MiraBella Vitale, and Elliott McBride. In addition, she is survived by three sisters, Gladys Moss, Shirley (Donald) Schell, and Ruth (Emmett) Kelsey; two brothers, L. Myrrel Proven, and Robert (Gail) Proven; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in the spring in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
