Ellie Hammon

Ellie Hammon, 79, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at home. Born in Utica on Friday, January 23, 1931, she was the daughter of Vincent Locey and Martha Stricker Locey. She lived in the Syracuse area until moving to Camillus in 1963. Ellie was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. She was employed by the Internal Revenue Service for 25 years, retiring in 1987. A communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, she was also a former communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and past president of the Altar & Rosary Society. An artist, Ellie enjoyed painting, arts and crafts. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson. Ellie was predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Martha Locey; brother, Vincent Locey; and husband, Lou Hammon. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Denise Hammon of Boston, Massachusetts, Kevin Hammon and Tim and Carol Hammon, all of Syracuse; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dan Derocher of Kirkville and Laurie and Peter Scarson of Camillus; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Ron Poirier of Schenectady; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 in Our Lady of Peace Church. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, January 31, 2010 from noon to 3 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Ellie will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
