G. Hermine Betts Duerr

December 15, 1905 — July 5, 2008

G. Hermine Betts Duerr, 102, of Syracuse, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the home of her son. Born in Syracuse on December 15, 1905, she was the daughter of Charles Horace Tryon and Alexina Pichette Tryon. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she graduated from Eastwood High School. Hermine was employed for 50 years with the NY Telephone Co. and was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers Club of America. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Her favorite things to do in life, other than always being late, were shopping, traveling, having lunch and cocktails at her favorite restaurant, and being with her family. Hermine's first husband of 33 years, George Betts, Jr., died in 1965, her second husband of 35 years, James Duerr, died in 2003 and her loving daughter, Carol Betts, died in 1971. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, George and Betty Betts III of Camillus; grandchildren, Michael (Tammy) Betts of Liverpool, Louis (Ann) Betts of Westvale, George (Vicky) Betts IV of Onondaga Hill and Lisa (Robert) Besner of Camillus; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and her special caretaker, Frances DeStefano. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Monday, July 7, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. Contributions may be made to S.P.C.A., 5878 E. Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
