George E. DeMore

September 8, 1942 — January 28, 2009

George E. DeMore, 66, formerly of Camillus, died unexpectedly on Wednesday in Savannah, GA. Born and raised in Syracuse, George and his wife, Kathy, had recently retired to The Landings on Skidaway island, Savannah, GA. A graduate of CBA High School, The College of Holy Cross and Syracuse University College of Law, George was a practicing attorney for 39 years and the managing partner of The Sugarman Law Firm in Syracuse for 25 years. Based upon his long history of success as a trial attorney, George was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1995. In 2005, he was admitted to The International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the highest honor a trial attorney can receive as it is selectively limited to the top 500 attorneys in the world. He was a member of Bellevue Country Club for his entire adult life and served as the club's president in 2006. While George was a well known attorney and trusted advisor to many people, he will be most remembered by his family as a loving and giving husband, father and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and a compassionate heart as he willingly and quietly helped anyone who requested his assistance. He will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege and honor to know him. George is survived by his best friend and wife of 41 years, Kathleen (Quigley); and their children, Sarah (Michael) Churchill and Paul (Marcie), both of Charlotte, NC, and Timothy (Margaret) of Syracuse; sister, Eleanor (Joe) McAvoy of Lake Placid; brother, Robert (Anne) of Fabius; and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and would brag about on a daily basis, Will, Claire, Kate, George, Charlie, Megan, Teddy and Lucy. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Most Holy Rosary Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Those wishing to make a contribution in George's memory may send them to Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, NY 13207.
