Helen J. Karasek, 90, of Camillus, passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at Community General Hospital. Born in Richfield Springs on Saturday, January 31, 1920, she lived in Columbia, Little Falls and Fort Herkimer before moving to Camillus in 1954. During World War II, Helen worked for Remington Arms as a gun inspector. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She enjoyed traveling, going to casinos and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen’s main hobby was bookkeeping but the farm and family were the great joys in her life. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Victoria Bukatko; her husband, Rudolph “Rudy” in 2007; and sisters, Mary Kline and Bernice Frazier. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Rudy and Pat of Camillus; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and nephew, Bernie Hugick of Mohawk. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 1 at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, February 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum, Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. Contributions in Helen’s name may be made to St. Joseph's Church Food Pantry, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
