Helen (Kurak) Cherweniak
April 2, 1922 — March 2, 2017
Helen (Kurak) Cherweniak, 94, of Westvale, passed away suddenly on March 2, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Central High School and retired after 35 years as an executive secretary with the General Electric Co.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank, in 1974; brother, Michael Kurak; sisters, Anne Zangrilli and Martha Van Slyke; and granddaughter, Rebecca.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara (Michael Mikolay) of Fox Chapel, PA; son, Michael (Debbie Arnold) of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Eric (Camille) Lurie, Aaron Lurie and Molly Lurie-Marino; great-grandchildren, Duran and Noble Lurie; and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral Mass was celebrated in Holy Family Church. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Central New York Chapter Syracuse Office, 200 Gateway Park Dr., Bldg. C, Syracuse, NY 13212.
