Helen McCann Smith

Helen E. Smith, 64, of Solvay, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, August 22, 1944, she was the daughter of Douglas Smith and Helen Elizabeth Flarety Smith. Helen graduated from Jordan-Elbridge High School. She was employed 38 years with the Onondaga County Dept. of Social Services, retiring in 2002. She enjoyed camping with friends, Bingo and knitting. Surviving are her husband, Robert McCann, daughter, Sandra McCann of Buffalo; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tabitha McCann of Lakeland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Kenneth Barrigar of Camillus, and Elizabeth and Alan Stofer of San Diego, California; brother, Douglas Smith of Elbridge; grandchildren, Kayleigh Manni of Buffalo, Brennen and Caitlin McCann, both of Lakeland and nieces and nephews. There will be no services. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be private in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an educational fund for Helen’s grandchildren, c/o Michael McCann, 204 Halcomb St., Syracuse, NY 13209 or to one’s favorite charity.
