Helen Turverey Maslyn

Helen Turverey Maslyn, 88, of Rochester, formerly of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Rochester. She was born in Syracuse on Monday, August 22, 1921. Helen and her first husband, Ray, were very active in the Presbyterian church. She was elected the first woman moderator of the Presbytery. In the late ‘70s, Helen and Ray moved to Florida where they resided until Ray died in 1994. Helen married Frank Maslyn in 1996 and moved to Rochester where Frank, a Kodak retiree, was born and raised. Surviving are her husband, Frank; daughter, Susan Turverey of Syracuse; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sheila Turverey of Central Square; sister, Elizabeth Gravell of Syracuse; grandchildren, Lynn (Tom) Small and Kristina (Gregg) O’Neill, both of Virginia and Sheri (Bill) Hansen of Brewerton; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Relatives and friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. preceding the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s name to Journey Home, 994 Long Pond Rd., Rochester, NY 14626-1124.
