Irving H. Weatherup

Irving H. Weatherup, 86, of Camillus, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born in Brasie Corners on Saturday, March 20, 1920, he was the son of Thomas William Weatherup and Mary Jane Boyd. He lived there for seven years until moving to Gouverneur in 1927. Irv lived in Camillus since 1948. He was employed by Hertz Corp., retiring in 1972 after 25 years. He later taught Business and Social Studies in the Syracuse public and parochial schools for approximately 10 years. Irv received a B.S. in Business and M.S. in Education from Syracuse University and Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a communicant of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and former trustee. A member of the Syracuse Mens Garden Club since 1953, Irv was also a former president and Master Gardener. He was a lifetime member of the Gardeners of America. He was a former president of the Institute for Retired Professionals and the Onondaga Hill Antiques Club. Irv was a member of Boarshead, a dramatics honorary society, Phi Kappa Tau, a social fraternity, Service Corporation of Retired Executives, and the Syracuse Rotary Club since 1950. A volunteer at Everson Museum and former Volunteer of the Year and Everson docent, he was a former member of the Sales Executive Club, Syracuse Travel Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce.Irv enjoyed going to the St. Lawrence to his stone cottage, which he built on Perch Island. He also enjoyed organic gardening of which he grew flowers and vegetables. He felt traveling was priceless. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Schiebel; daughters, Onnolee Smith of Albany, Wendy Sollecito of Seattle, Washington and Jean Bambrough of So. Weber, Utah; son, Stuart Weatherup of Camillus; sister, Ione Klotz of Roseburg, Oregon; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2006at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent officiating. The family will receive guests following the service. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 5402 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
