James T. Roach

January 20, 1926 — January 24, 2015

James T. Roach, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday at University Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he received a bachelor of science degree in finance from Siena College. Jim  was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant with the military police in Germany during the Nuremberg Trials. He retired from Christopher Community, Inc. and previously worked at Colonial Life Insurance. Jim was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending summers at his family camp in Old Forge. An avid golfer and bowler, he was a member of both Eastwood Golfing and Bowling Leagues. He also enjoyed gardening. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Elizabeth Clark Carnegie; stepsons, James (Doreen) Carnegie of Camillus and Thomas (Melonie) Carnegie of Tempe, AZ; granddaughters, Jennifer and Christine Carnegie, both of Syracuse; brothers, Paul Roach of Syracuse and Leo (Nan) Roach of Fayetteville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, January 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 28 at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Church. James will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 344 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY  13202.
