Jane Mason Hackbarth

Jane Mason Hackbarth, 88, of 508 Winkworth Parkway, Syracuse, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 9, 2010 at home in the arms of her loving husband with her son at her side. Born in Syracuse on Wednesday, August 17, 1921, she was the daughter of Charles Harvey Mason and Catherine Jones Mason. She graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1939 and attended Syracuse University. A wonderful and exquisite homemaker, Jane enjoyed cooking, gardening and entertaining. She was known as “Aunt Jane” to the many residents at the DePalmer House for whom she provided a constant supply of her baked goods. The residents nominated her for the Post Standard’s Women of Achievement. She supported her friends and neighbors with her home cooking during their times of need. She enjoyed her many bridge friends. Jane was predeceased by her brother, Richard Mason, of Gouverneur, New York. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Raymond; son, Raymond (Barbara Windsor) Hackbarth Jr. of Capistrano Beach, California; daughter, Nancy (Brian) Murray of Kent, Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda Howell and Jason Murray; great-grandson, Logan Howell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jane’s name to Chadwick Residence, 335 Valley Dr., Syracuse, NY 13207.
