John George Woods

John G. “Woody” Woods, 59, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Community General Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Monday, August 21, 1950, he was the son of John D. Woods and Rita Krystosik Woods. Woody grew up in Camillus and lived in Solvay since 1980. He was a 1969 graduate of West Genesee High School and an All-County Basketball player. Woody was head horticulturalist at the Tuscarora Golf Club for more than 15 years and previously was employed with Nolan Shoe Store and the Scotsman Press. He was in the Camillus Country Club golf league. An avid sports fan, he was a huge S.U. Basketball fan. He loved music, enjoyed traveling and gardening. Woody was “young at heart” and loved to make others laugh. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Rita Woods. Surviving are his sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Baldwinsville and Margaret and William Hart of Syracuse; brother, Dean of Syracuse; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and lastly, his one and only daughter, Kathryn Woods of Syracuse. Relatives and friends may call Monday, May 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be private.
