John R. Cashion

February 5, 1935 — September 13, 2017

John R. Cashion, 82, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Born and raised in Cortland, he moved to Camillus in 1963. A graduate of St. Mary's High School, John owned Diz's IGA for 25 years before retiring in 2001. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church who loved helping his neighbors with any task or project. An avid SU fan, John enjoyed going to football games, but above all, loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his three sisters; and one brother.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Christine Barnes; son, Jay Cashion of Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Terry (Don) Gentilcore of Camillus and Kathy (Jim) DiCosimo of Onondaga Hill; grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Ella Gentilcore and Tyler and Matthew Sliker; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday, September 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 18 at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Burial will be private.
