John S. Kenny

John S. Kenny, 82, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse. Born in Geneva, he was the son of Edward D. and Anna. T. Kenny. Mr. Kenny graduated from DeSales High School, Hobart College cum laude, and Syracuse University College of Law cum magna laude, in 1956. He served in the Army and retired as major from the Air Force Reserves. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Camillus. Actively engaged in the practice of law, Mr. Kenny was a member of the board of directors of the Onondaga County Bar Association and chaired many committees for the association, including Syracuse City Court Committee and was also active in establishing the indigent clients program. During his years of practice, he was associated with numerous attorneys. In 1993, he established the firm Kenny & Kenny, PLLC with his son, Michael, where he continued to practice until his death. A sports enthusiast, John was an avid golfer and a Yankee and SU fan. He enjoyed traveling and spending his summers on Owasco Lake. Mr. Kenny was predeceased by his first wife, the former Mary Patricia Graham, in 1976; and brother, Edward F. Kenny, in 1995. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, the former Rosalie Chartrand; daughters, Teresa Kenny of Vestal, Patricia (John Humrich) Kenny of Fairport, Jennifer (Jeff Harris) Chrysler of Lakeland and Tamara (Douglas) Dawkins of Bridgeport; sons, John (Jamie) Kenny of North Syracuse, Michael (Dana Jeschke) Kenny of Syracuse; Thomas (Mary) Chartrand of Pompey and Craig (Penny) Chartrand of LaFayette; 15 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday, October 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 12 in St. Joseph's Church. Mr. Kenny has donated his body to Upstate Medical Center for research purposes. Burial will be at a later date in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
