Jon Dee Holtsbery Sr.

Jon Dee Holtsbery Sr., 75, of East Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at home. Born and raised in Syracuse, he lived in Connecticut, Michigan, and Ohio before returning to Syracuse in 2010. He attended Eastwood High School and was an Army veteran. Jon was an entertainer and singer in the Army and beyond. He managed several restaurants and was a former salesman for several companies in the Syracuse area. He worked as a dealer and pit boss in a number of casinos. He retired from the Greektown Casino in 2005. Jon was a communicant of Holy Family Church, Fairmount and St. Matthew's Church, E. Syracuse. He was a member of the Updowntowners and the VFW. An avid coin and stamp collector, he also enjoyed gambling, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are his daughter, Jeanine (Bart) Schibeci of Fairmount; sons, Jon D. (Kellie) Holtsbery Jr. of Solvay and Ryan Holtsbery of Fairmount; stepsons, James (Jody) Coleman of Lyncourt and Stephen (Amy) Coleman of Fort Worth, TX; sister, Mary Lynn (Frank) Raiti of Osceola; brothers, Donald Holtsbery of Eastwood and Richard (Elizabeth) Holtsbery of Milford, MA; grandchildren, Olivia, Nathan and Brianna; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 24 at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Fairmount. Jon will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
