Joseph B. Macro

February 3, 1931 — October 4, 2020

Joseph B. Macro, 89, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at Francis House on Sunday, October 4, 2020. He was born on February 3, 1931 to the late Leone and Concetta (Vaccaro) Macro in Syracuse.

Joe was a graduate of North High School. It was there he met the love of his life, Frances, at the age of 15. They married at the young age of 19 and spent 62 wonderful years together as husband and wife.

Joe was a meat cutter by trade. In his early years, he worked at several independent grocery stores. A Korean War veteran, Joe served four years in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 in Texas. Upon returning to New York, he and Frances made their home in Camillus. Joe went to work for Fay’s Drugs in 1959. He began his career there delivering prescriptions and stocking shelves. 38 years later he retired as the company’s merchandise manager. He then went on to work at Wegmans for 15 years, where you could find him behind the fish counter.

Joe and Fran enjoyed tennis and attended many tournaments in the US and Europe. They were fortunate to be able to travel extensively and especially loved visiting Switzerland, Italy and Denmark. Later they enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. Even though he was a world traveler, Joe was happiest at home enjoying Fran’s cooking and Sunday dinners with his children and grandchildren. Joe was a devout parishioner of Holy Family Church for over 60 years.

Joe was predeceased by his parents; siblings; and wife, Frances.

Surviving are his children, Michael (Nancy) Macro, Marc (Tracy) Macro and Mary Ellen (Patrick) Koloski; grandchildren, Dylan, Monica, Lauren, Ashlee, Conor, Sean, Kendall, Nathan and Connor; and great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Ryder, Quinn, Jack, Avery, Nora, Viviana and Lilah.

The family would like to thank Dr. Panda, the 6th floor nursing staff and palliative team at Upstate Community for their care and compassion not only to Joe, but the family too. A special thanks to the angels at Francis House.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday, October 10 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Syracuse.
