Joseph G. Bowes

February 19, 1918 — April 22, 2018

Joseph G. Bowes, 100, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at The Centers at St. Camillus. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a 1936 graduate of Central Tech High School and Niagara University.

Joseph was employed with Excellus BlueCross & BlueShield for 36 years before retiring in 1982. A communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church, he also was a member of the Rogues' Roost Golf Club for many years.

For over 20 years, Joseph spent his winters in Florida. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, traveling and playing in various Bridge clubs, but above all, loved spending time with his family.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 2011; parents, William and Loretta; four sisters; and two brothers.

Surviving are his daughters, Nancy (Robert) Erwin and Sharon E. Bowes; and son, Joseph (Laurel), all of Syracuse; grandchildren, Kelly LeBlanc, Michael (Tracey) Erwin, Kathleen (Philip) Zollo, Patrick (Beth) Erwin, Michael Bowes and Kristin Bowes; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 28 at 9:30 a.m. in Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse. Joseph will be laid to rest in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Camillus Foundation, 813 Fay Rd., Syracuse, NY 13219 or to Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, NY 13207.
