Joyce A. Bowes

Joyce A. (Merriman) Bowes, 91, of Camillus, passed away Saturday. Born and raised in Otisco, she moved to The Valley in 1945 before settling in Camillus in 1955. She was a 1946 graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy. Joyce was employed with GTE Sylvania for 12 years and formerly worked at the NY Telephone Co. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and member of its Altar & Rosary Society. Joyce was a member of the Camillus Elks Lodge and enjoyed bowling, golfing and Bunco. Above all, she loved spending time with family.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Peter, in 1999; sister, Mary Rita Kelly, in 2018; and parents, Eugene and Lillian Merriman.

Surviving are her daughters, Coleen (Charles) Toombs of Kirkville and Carol (Thomas) Cannizzo of Tully; sons, Patrick (Nancy) of Matthews, NC and Thomas (Connie) of North Augusta, SC; brother-in-law, Jack Kelly of Skaneateles; sister-in-law, Margaret Badger of Liverpool; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be private.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 10 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 5600 West Genesee St., Camillus. Private burial will be held in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to the Joe Martin ALS Foundation, 100 N. Tryon St., Suite 3420, Charlotte, NC 28202.
