Julien John Polge, Sr.

Julien John Polge, Sr., The Fish Man , 83, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 24, 2007 in Terre Haute, Indiana while visiting his daughters. He was born May 28, 1923 in Syracuse to August Polge and Mary Gurniak Polge. He was a graduate of Central High School. An Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, he was an aerial gunner, flying thirty-five missions in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Polge was the owner of J&J Seafood and was also often seen at the Regional Market. A communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, he was an usher and greeter for more than 50 years with the most pleasant smile. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother who enjoyed traveling, giving whisker rubs to his grandkids and yelling at the umpires at their ball games. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, August. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Marlene Annette Gravitt; daughters, Sharon Polge (Gary Morris) of Terre Haute, Indiana and Cynthia (Robert) Kaluza of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sons, Julien (Nancy) Polge, Jr. and Gregory (Christine) Polge, both of Syracuse; sister, Mary Louise Polge of Syracuse; brothers, Louis (Jean) Polge, Albert (Evelyn) Polge, Charles (Mary) Polge and Alfred (Shelly) Polge, all of Syracuse; grandchildren, Katie and Allison Morris; Christina, Amanda and Joshua Kaluza; Ashlie, Stephanie, Julien III and Zachary Polge, Melissa, Sara, Meaghan and Shannon Polge; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Creno of Syracuse, Nan Loats of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary (Jack) Pettygrew of Chesterfield, Virginia, Connie Gravitt of Lynchburg, Virginia and Dorothy Gravitt of California; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Friends may call Friday, March 2, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 E. Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY 13202, Guardian Angel Society, 259 E.
