Louis A. Church

Louis A. Church, 89, of Onondaga Hill, son of the late Paul and Rose (Mallory) Cherchio, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born in Warners on Friday, January 11, 1924, he was the son of Paul and Rose (Mallory) Church. He was a 1941 graduate of Warners High School. He also attended Alfred University and CCBI. Lou lived in Adams for many years where he raised his four children and worked as an auto trimmer and an upholsterer with a business in Watertown. A Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a former member of the Italian American Club in Watertown and Syracuse and the American Legion in Watertown and Brandon, Florida. A member of several golf leagues and bowling leagues, Lou also coached softball. He enjoyed playing cards, the Turning Stone casino, and playing bridge on his computer. He loved life and most of all spending time with his family at his cottage on Lake Ontario. Lou is predeceased by sisters, Mary Brokamp and Julia Bobey and a grandson, Anthony Church. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Rose Mangine, who grew up in Warners; children: Paul Church of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ann (John McGraw) Ray of Camillus, Louis Church of Ithaca, and Susan (Billy Grimes) Collazo of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Amelia Ray of Big Bear Lake, California, Kate, Eric and Mollie Church, all of Ithaca, Rose and Louis Collazo, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado, seven great-grand children; sisters, Rose (Jim) Smith of Arlington Texas, and Dorothy Wilensky of Syracuse. In keeping with Lou's wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lou's name may be made to the Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 11122, Syracuse, NY 13218.
