Louis Slayton Marble

April 23, 1929 — August 12, 2018

Louis Slayton Marble, 89, of Camillus, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Francis House surrounded by his loving family. Lou was the sixth child born to Frances S. and George B. Marble on April 23, 1929. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Central High School and attended Park College in St. Louis, MO. Lou was an Air Force veteran and humbly served stateside during the Korean War.

As a teenager, Lou learned the particulars of operating a dairy plant from his father. He assisted his brother, James Marble, in running the family business, Marble Farms Dairy, Inc. from 1955 to 1965 and retired in 1995 from Barnes and Cone, Inc. An active member of Marcellus Presbyterian Church, he was formerly a board member of the First Presbyterian Church in Syracuse.

Born at the start of the Great Depression, Lou learned early on the benefits of frugality and he remained the quintessential do-it-yourselfer until late in life. Loved ones will also remember him as a man wealthy in relationships. Church involvement was the centerpiece of his life with Shirley, and they cherished friendships formed through couples’ clubs, Bible studies, and wintering in Florida with dear friends.

Lou was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley, in December, 2017.

Lou is survived by his younger brother, Frederic M. Marble; daughters, Elizabeth (Calvin) Wilson and Cynthia (Michael) Fowler; sons, John (Carol) Marble and Charles (Lesley) Marble; grandchildren, Cara (Nicholas) Wiest, Gwenyth (Anthony) Perella, Bethany (Jeffrey) Swisher, Evan Marble, Benjamin (Nicola) Chin, Emily Chin, Nathan (Deidre) Fowler, Jordan (Emily Brillanti) Fowler, Elizabeth Fowler, Jonathan Fowler, Justin (Michelle Lupien) Marble, Jon Luke Marble and Ashley Marble; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A memorial service will follow at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Becky Coerper officiating.

Lou has generously chosen to donate his body as an anatomical gift to SUNY Upstate Medical Center.
