Marian W. Rice, 93, of Camillus, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Voorheesville on April 1, 1916, she was the daughter of Fred N. Wood and Ethel Udell Wood. She lived there for 16 years until moving to the Camillus area in 1962. Marian graduated from Green Mt. Junior College in Poultney, Vermont. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Hartwick College, Oneonta and her master’s degree in Latin from Colgate University, Hamilton. She was an English and Latin teacher for Cato-Meridian School District for 17 years, retiring in 1979. Marian was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church. A former teacher for Literacy Volunteers, she also volunteered at Community General Hospital and was a member of the Auxiliary. Marian was a member of the Classical Association of New York State and former member of the advisory board of Fairmount Gardens for four years. She was a member of both New York State and Cayuga County Retired Teachers Associations., the Association of Latin Teachers Around Central New York and was a former member of the Friends of the Octagon House. Marion’s husband, Edward K. Rice, died in 1984. Surviving are her son, Edward Y. Rice of Woodstock, Georgia and daughter, Carolyn Rice of Tucson, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009 in Immanuel United Methodist Church, Camillus with Rev. Heather Williams officiating. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Marian will be laid to rest at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Voorheesville.
