Martha Jane Cuddy, 88, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born and raised in Conneaut, Ohio, she moved to Syracuse in 1959 after getting married. A graduate of Conneaut High School, Marty received her bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst University and master’s degree from Niagara University. She was employed as a teacher for many years, finishing her career teaching English as a Second Language at OCM BOCES. A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, she was also a member of the choir. Marty advocated passionately for others in need by serving and volunteering on many committees, including the Auxiliary Board at Community General Hospital, Catholic Charities, The Cerebral Palsy Center, ARC of Onondaga and United Way. She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, gardening, golfing, reading, tennis, camping, and doing many activities with her closest friends. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Marty was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, in 2010, John G. “Jack” Cuddy, Jr.; parents, Charles and Margaret McNulty; and sister, Patricia Kaiser.
Surviving are her sons, Michael (Mary Ann) of Pittsburgh, PA, Daniel of Rochester, and Timothy of Camillus; daughters, Kathleen Taylor of Camillus and Margaret Nothnagle of Rochester; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, June 24 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Marty will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery in Warners.
