Michael C. Monahan, 69, of Fairmount, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at home. Born in New York City on Friday, August 11, 1939, he lived in Warners for 40 years and was a Navy veteran. Michael was employed for 41 years with ADT, retiring in 2001. He was a member of IBEW Local #43. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church and a former communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church where he was a former president of its Men's Club and assisted with construction of the church hall and maintenance projects. Known as a "jack-of-all-trades," Michael built his house and made more than 100 picture frames for family and friends. He also made stained glass, belts and canes, and restored a '78 Camaro. He enjoyed traveling and spending time at his camp near Saranac Lake. Michael was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor Thibault; brother, Kevin Thibault; and grandparents, Vincent and Mildred Smith. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Patricia McKeown; sons and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Julianne Monahan of Cheyenne and John Monahan of Syracuse; granddaughters, Jessilyn and Rebecca Monahan, both of Cheyenne; sister, Fernand Thibault of Syracuse; brothers and sister-in-law, Barry and Pauline Yakubics of New Jersey and Joseph Thibault of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and longtime childhood friends, John and Pat Carpenter of Nedrow, Ernie Savage of Ilion and Mary Ellen and Don Bogert of Warners; ADT employees; and friends of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, "not only friends, family by choice." Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 in Our Lady of Peace Church where Rev. John E. Fetcho will celebrate a funeral Mass. Friends may call Wednesday, December 17, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088-6148.
