Nicholas Chudyk

Nicholas Chudyk, 92, of Camillus, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. Born in Hammond, Indiana on Sunday, April 4, 1920, he was the son of Barbara (Babij) and Nicholas Chudyk. He lived in Camillus for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and Syracuse University with a BS degree in chemical engineering and was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. He retired from Carrier Corp. after 33 years. An Army veteran of World War II, Nicholas served as first lieutenant with the 342nd AA Mechanized Battery in North Africa and Italy. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He spent summers at his cottage on Lake Ontario in Henderson Harbor and wintered in Davenport, Florida. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Fairmount. Nicholas was predeceased by his wife, the former Barbara D. Lewis, in 1978; three infant sons; an infant daughter; three brothers; and one sister. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas (Donna Grose) of Williamstown and Thomas and Christine of York, South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Craig Jones of Westvale; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Alexander of Stokes. Relatives and friends may call Monday, January 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Msgr. Francis Osei-Nyarko officiating. Nicholas will be laid to rest in the spring in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Taberg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
