Norma S. Sherwood

August 28, 1929 — January 28, 2015

Norma S. Sherwood, 85, passed away peacefully with family by her side at St. Luke Health Services, Oswego. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, daughter, and friend.  Norma was the youngest of the six “Stanton Girls” born to Harry and Alpha Stanton of Solvay.  She moved to Cards Corners after marrying the love of her life, Vernon “Bud” Sherwood in 1951.  Together they moved to Camillus to raise their family.  Norma worked in food service for the West Genesee School system before leaving to enjoy retirement with her husband and friends.  They spent 20 winters in Florida before moving to Oswego in 2006.  She was a former member of Fairmount Community Church and Eastern Star.  She enjoyed summers camping in the Adirondacks, boating, picnicking, skiing, baking, knitting and sewing.  She volunteered at the Great Camp, Sagamore.  She was a devoted NY Yankee and SU fan.  Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Her sweet smile will be remembered by those who knew her. Norma was predeceased by her husband of 57 years in 2009 and by her sisters, Marjorie Wass, Vera Whitford, Doris Morey and Wilma Cole. Surviving are her daughter, Wendy (John) Heretyk of Oswego; son, Mark (Christine) Sherwood of North Syracuse; sister, Avis (Charles) Filkins of PA; grandchildren, Nicholas and Shelby Sherwood and many nieces and nephews Relatives and friends may call Saturday, May 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.  Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Norma will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. William’s on Long Point, P.O Box 71, Raquette Lake, NY 13436 or to Sagamore Institute, Sagamore Rd., Raquette Lake, NY 13436.  Norma loved flowers, they will be welcomed.
