Norman Kelly

January 29, 1930 — July 10, 2011

Norman K. Kelly, 81, of Camillus, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at home, surrounded by family and friends after a long and courageous battle with kidney failure. Born in Rochester on Wednesday, January 29, 1930, he lived in Balmat for 17 years and Watertown for 30 years before moving to Camillus in 2001. He was a 1948 graduate of Gouverneur High School and received an associate degree from Jefferson Community College. Norman served in the Army during the Korean War and retired from Fort Drum. Employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Watertown for 20 years, he retired in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. A communicant of Holy Family Church, he was also a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Watertown where he was president of the Legion of Mary and Third Order of St. Francis. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed bowling and golf. Norman was predeceased by his parents, Seth and Gladys Ward. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Maria Pia Cargelli; daughter and son-in-law, Stefania and Brian Ravas of Camillus; and brother, Erwin Ward of Goleta, California. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, July 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 13 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Norman will be laid to rest at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 800 Irving Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210.
