Richard A. Kowalczyk, 60, most beloved son, brother, uncle and friend to all who had the good fortune to know him, was called home to Our Lord on Monday February 7, 2004. Born in Syracuse on Wednesday, August 30, 1944, he was the son of Andrew Henry Kowalczyk and Mary Lytwynec. Richard resided most of his life in Atlanta, Georgia, Nashville, Tennessee and San Francisco, California before moving to Syracuse seven years ago to be closer to his family. He was owner of Kowal Enterprises in Atlanta and was a former interior decorator for Edwards, Flahs and Dey Bros. He was a Navy veteran. A 1964 graduate of West Genesee High School, Richard was also a graduate of the Institute of Interior Design in Atlanta and attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Camillus and former member of the Jaycees of Syracuse and Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta. Richard loved to play games, read and listen to country music. He also sponsored many local charities. He truly touched many lives and will be greatly missed but forever remembered by those who had come in contact with him. Richard is predeceased in death by his father, Andrew Kowalczyk. Surviving are his mother, Mary Lytwynec Kowalczyk of Fairmount; sisters, Kathleen Matott of Camillus and Mary Ellen (David) Masterpole of Syracuse; brothers, Dr. Nicholas (Andria) Kowalczyk of Chandler, Arizona and David Kowalczyk of Camillus and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved cat, Misty. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Thursday, February 10, 2005 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
