Robert Edward Smith, 90, of Fairmount, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Auburn Community Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, November 21, 1922, he was the son of Edward J. Smith and Hazel H. (Hovey) Smith. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School and lived in Fairmount since 1957 and was an Army veteran of World War II. Robert retired in 1984 from the NY Telephone Co. after 37 years. A communicant of Holy Family Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and also enjoyed camping, bowling, golfing, traveling and spending time with his family. Robert was predeceased by his wife, the former Rosemary Catherine Deal, on 11/11/2010. Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law, Sharon Hall of Breezy Point, Minnesota, and Shelley and Scott Brim of Jordan; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Nancy of Syracuse, Barry and Doreen of Knoxville, Tennessee and Gerry "Jay" and Vicki of Camillus; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 15 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the Auburn Nursing Home, 85 Thornton Ave., Auburn, NY 13021.
