Thomas J. Cowburn, 55, of Powell, Ohio, formerly of Syracuse, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, June 19, 1955, he was the son of the late Charles Cowburn and Geraldine Horrigan Cowburn. Tom was a 1974 graduate of West Genesee High School. He was a sergeant in the United States Air Force and received his Bachelor of Science, Solar Engineering from Colorado Technical University, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Tom worked with Carrier Corporation for 17 years and then for the past 9 years he worked with Columbus Temperature Control. Surviving are his wife of nine years, Katie Cowburn; son, Sean Cowburn of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Emily Jacobs of Powell, Ohio; brothers and sisters, Michael (Sandra) Cowburn of Saratoga, California, Kathleen (Joseph) Nash of Marcellus, Patrick (Mary) Cowburn of Syracuse and Christine (Gary) Strange of Charleston, South Carolina; stepmother, Joan Slater Cowburn of Syracuse; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends may call Friday, July 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 West Genesee St., Camillus. A memorial service took place in Ohio. Tom was laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio.
