William P. Fogarty Jr.

William P. Fogarty Jr., 85, of Camillus, died Monday, April 16, 2007 at home after a long illness. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, May 26, 1921, he was the son of William Patrick Fogarty and Sarah Irene Armstrong Fogarty. He lived in the Tipperary Hill section on the west side of Syracuse until moving to Camillus in 1955. William graduated from St. Patrick's High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for the Edward Joy Co. for 13 years and then owned and operated the W.P. Fogarty Co. until retiring in 1987 after 45 years. A long time communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus, he was also one of the oldest members of the Pastime Athletic Club with over 60 years of membership. William enjoyed visiting each of his four children throughout the country and made many trips to see them. He loved watching sports as well as golfing and fishing at his summer camp on the St. Lawrence River. He was a well-known and active bowler throughout many leagues in the greater Syracuse area, founded the Oakledge Manor League and made many friends throughout the years in this game he truly loved. He was also a long time supporter of the Syracuse University football program, a member of the Orange Pack, and had season tickets for many years. For the past 20 years, he had spent winters in Port Charlotte, Florida. Surviving are his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Wilma F. (Mautz) Fogarty; son and daughter-in-law, William and Nancy Fogarty III of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Richard Ohno of Colliersville, Tennessee, Gail and Geoffrey Gillett of Orono, Maine and Teresa Fogarty of Fayetteville; sister, Shirley Stevenson of Port St. Lucie, Florida; brother, John Fogarty of Cicero and grandchildren, Tim and Kristen Fogarty, Tom, Mike and Carolyn Ohno, Billy, Paul, Phillip and Thomas Gillett. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church in Camillus where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Thursday, April 19, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or the National Federation of the Blind, 1800 Johnson St., Baltimore, MD 21230.
