Captain Douglas Gwynn Morey

Sunrise February 5, 1943 – Sunset March 23, 2025 

Captain Douglas Gwynn Morey took off for the last time on March 23, 2025. He is now flying high in the sky. Born in Syracuse, he lived many places over the years, including California, NYC, and Nairobi, Kenya since 1970. He graduated from West Genesee High School and Syracuse University. A captain in the U.S. Air Force, Doug also piloted for several airlines, most recently Air Kenya as a bush pilot and independently as a safety educator. Doug was a friend to everyone, always had a story, and lived larger than life itself.

Surviving are his wife, Karen of Nairobi; daughters, Nekesa (Paul) Hess and Portia (Sam Stringer), both of London, UK; sister, Janice (Burt) Pedersen of Camillus; niece, Kristen (Stephen) Hanson of West Palm Beach, FL; nephew, Todd (Lesley) Pedersen of Washington, DC; as well as a great- nephew, Nathan; and cousins.

A private service was held in Nairobi.
