Carl N. D’Orsogna, 72, of Camillus, passed away unexpectedly on Friday at home. Born and raised on Long Island, he settled in Camillus in 2017. Carl was employed by Amtrak as a coach cleaner and worked his way up to train engineer, retiring after more than 30 years of service. During retirement, he pursued his passion for gardening and music. Carl would often be immersed in playing his various instruments for hours. These instruments included the accordion, guitar, banjo, and violin. He was a true renaissance man. A model train enthusiast, Carl was able to live out his childhood dream of operating a train. He studied philosophy, poetry, and classical literature. Carl had a dry sense of humor, was proud of his beard, and gave the best bear hugs. Above all, he loved his family immensely.
Carl was predeceased by his grandson, Jacob; and parents, Eraldo and Adeline.
Surviving are his sons, Carl (Meghan) and Jason (Candace); granddaughter, Charlotte; sister, Lisa (James) Schojbert; brother, Richard; nieces, Haley (Henry) and Jolie (Matthew); and nephew, Xavier.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, February 4 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Carl will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Genesee Central School District Fine Arts Dept., 300 Sanderson Dr., Camillus, NY 13031.
