Charles “Chuck” Sharkey, 76, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Upstate Community Hospital.
Born and raised in Utica, Chuck graduated from Utica Free Academy before earning his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy. He dedicated 40 years to serving his community as a pharmacist, retiring in 2012 and was widely respected for his professionalism, knowledge, and care for his patients.
Chuck had a lifelong passion for sports and competition. He was an avid softball coach, earning three inductions into the National Softball Hall of Fame and achieving multiple league and tournament championships. He also enjoyed trivia, bowling—once rolling a perfect game—and cheering on the New York Mets. His love of travel and adventure brought joy to his life, but nothing matched the happiness he found in spending time with his family.
Chuck will be remembered as a dedicated professional, a passionate coach, a competitive spirit, and a loving family man. His warmth, humor, and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and his legacy of mentorship, friendship, and family devotion will be cherished forever.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Maryrose and Joseph Sharkey.
Surviving are his sons, Michael (Julie) of Minoa and Matthew (Amanda Naylor) of Nedrow; granddaughters, Annelise and Nora Sharkey; companion, Carol Sullivan of Liverpool; brother, Anthony (Marsha) of Shelton, CT; sister, Joanne (George) Giuliano of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate Chuck’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
