Christine “Chris” Licamele, 71, of Camillus, passed away on Wednesday, following a brief illness.
Born to Stephen and Helen Swierczek, Chris was a 1969 graduate of West Genesee High School, and worked for Onondaga County’s Bureau of Vital Statistics for over 30 years processing birth and death records. She helped parents receive birth certificates of their newborns, while providing comfort to people in their time of need with death certificates.
Chris adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them in person and virtually. She cherished her family and friends, was enchanted by butterflies, and enjoyed singing along to Neil Diamond, Bobby Vee and Oldies music. Chris was famous for spending hours finding the perfect greeting cards to send to those near and dear to her, decorating them with stickers galore. She appreciated the many compliments she received from postal workers on her envelopes and packages. Chris immortalized her love of stickers with her email username, “stickernut”. It was her unique way of bringing some joy into peoples’ lives.
Originally from Whitesboro, Chris lived in the Syracuse area for over 60 years. Devoted to her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for several decades before becoming a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus.
Chris is predeceased by her parents. Surviving are her husband, John Licamele of Syracuse; son, Greg (Elizabeth) Licamele of Aldie, VA; three granddaughters, Alyssa, Sienna and Elena; brother, Stephen (Pamella) Swierczek of Marcellus and his family; and several dear cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 3 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Chris will be laid to rest at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
