Christine K. Schoonmaker

June 15, 1957 — April 23, 2024

Camillus

Christine K. Schoonmaker, 66, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at home. After graduating from Mahwah High School, she pursued her academic aspirations at Ithaca College, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors. Christine later enriched her mind at Syracuse University, where she earned her bachelor's degree, followed by a master's degree from Chapman University. In 1977, she found her calling in Syracuse, where she dedicated herself to the noble profession of social work with Safe Horizon. Her compassion, empathy, and tireless efforts made a profound impact on countless individuals and families.

Christine was a former member of the Fairmount Community Church. She found solace and joy in the tranquility of sailing and was also a proud member of the Skaneateles Sailing Club. Christine embraced the freedom of the open waters, finding peace and serenity amidst the waves. Christine’s zest for life extended far beyond the shores, as she enjoyed playing tennis, running, and skiing. Yet, amidst her many passions, her greatest joy came from the simple pleasures of spending time with her beloved family and friends.

Christine's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her spirit will forever live on in the cherished memories she leaves behind. May her legacy of compassion, adventure, and love continue to inspire and uplift those who follow in her footsteps.

Christine was predeceased by her son, Ryan, in 2001; and parents, Walter and Eleanor Killough.

Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Timothy; son, Joshua (Kristina) of Camillus; grandson, Cameron; brothers, Walter (Lois) and Mark (Elaine) Killough, both of Mahwah, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.

To honor Christine’s life, family and friends are invited to gather Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ryan Schoonmaker Memorial Scholarship Fund, 312 Lynn Rd., Camillus, NY 13031.
