Daniel Patrick Cuddy, 61, of Camillus, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Saturday. Dan was hospitalized at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he had more recently resided. His siblings were by his side, comforting him at his peaceful passing.
Dan was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. He was a graduate of West Genesee High School and the College of Living at Onondaga Community College, a program for individuals with disabilities. After a productive early adulthood and many years of employment with National Grid, Dan relocated to Rochester, NY. There, he built a whole new circle of friends and supporters and worked in several positions at Unistel.
Over the years, Dan excelled in every activity available to him and touched many lives. As a Special Olympian in multiple sports, he earned many medals and was ultimately selected to carry the opening torch. Dan participated in SANYS (Self Advocacy Association of New York State), where he successfully lobbied the governor's office to have the "R-word" removed from all state documents. Between Tearney's Martial Arts in Camillus and Step Forward Martial Arts in Rochester, he was supported by instructors and classmates who helped him achieve his most recent goal of earning his black belt.
Spending time with family and special caregivers was one of Dan's greatest joys. He especially enjoyed playing board games and cards, fishing, attending flea markets, window shopping, going to the gym, and visiting his favorite restaurants.
Dan wanted to help others, and it came as no surprise to those who knew him that he had registered in the New York State Donate Life Registry. His loving spirit will live on as his parting gifts are received by those in need.
Dan was the second of five children, lovingly adopted by Jack and Marty Cuddy, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his siblings, Michael (Mary Ann), Kathleen Taylor, Timothy, and Meg (Mike) Webb; spiritual life partner, Brenda Bennett; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who dearly loved Dan.
