It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Pawelczyk Jr., 51, who passed away Wednesday, surrounded by his devoted family. Dave's high energy, unwavering dedication, and infectious passion left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Dave met his wife, Jen, in West Palm Beach, where his come-hither charm won her over and their connection blossomed. Together they made their home in Syracuse, where they built a beautiful life, married, and proudly raised their three loving daughters.
Beyond his family and career at Cornell University, Dave’s passion was undoubtedly youth soccer. He was far more than a coach; he was a mentor, a champion, and a guiding light for countless young athletes across the Northeast. Dave held a deeply rooted philosophy that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, deserved the opportunity to find joy, belonging, and personal growth on the field. This belief was the foundation of his extensive involvement, from his early work with WOYSA, to founding his beloved travel club, the West Sharks, and later joining Rush Soccer, where he led teams in national and international competition. The profound sense of purpose Dave derived from providing these life-enriching opportunities to our community was truly the heart of who he was. He nurtured talent, instilled sportsmanship, and, most importantly, fostered a sense of family and camaraderie among his players.
Dave is now reunited with his father, David Pawelczyk Sr.; and his grandparents, Bernarda and Henry, who helped raise him and preceded him in death.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 23 years, Jennifer; loving and adoring daughters, Amanda, Ashley, and Allison, who were the absolute center of his world; beloved mother, Regina Thompson; sister, Stephanie Pawelczyk; and a large, close knit extended family.
In true Dave fashion, always seeking to bring people together and fill a room with joy and laughter, we warmly invite everyone whose life was touched by Dave, in any capacity, to join us in celebrating his remarkable life. Let's "pack the house," just as he would have wanted, sharing memories and celebrating the legacy of a man who gave so much of himself to others.
To celebrate Dave’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, 501 S. Orchard Rd., Syracuse, NY 13219.
Dave will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
