Deborah “Debbie” Joan Benderski, 66, a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, passed away peacefully Monday evening, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, warmth, and love for her family and community.
Born and raised in Syracuse, Debbie was a graduate of Fowler High School. She went on to build a remarkable career at Syracuse University, where she served as a manager for over 20 years. Throughout her tenure, Debbie was respected for her strong work ethic, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence. She formed lasting friendships and took great pride in contributing to the university.
Debbie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured every moment spent with them, whether gathered around the dinner table, sharing stories, or enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, board games and card games. Debbie had a competitive spirit paired with a warm sense of humor, and her laughter often filled the room during lively games with loved ones. Those simple, joyful moments will be cherished memories for all who knew her.
Debbie was predeceased by her husband, William Benderski; parents, George and Catherine McCracken; and brothers, Greg and Jeff McCracken.
Surviving are her son, William Benderski Jr. of Syracuse; brother, Michael McCracken of South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
In celebration of Debbie’s life, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Debbie will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 126, Fayetteville, NY 13066.
