Douglas Jerome Hayes

February 8, 1963 — December 10, 2021

Douglas J. Hayes, 58, formerly of Syracuse, died peacefully on Friday at St. Luke's Hospital in Utica. You may remember Doug from Our Lady of Lourdes School, Bishop Ludden High School, and Onondaga Community College.

Doug’s career highlights include the Veterans Administration and Omnicare. Always busy, helpful, and an avid handyman, he was often involved in home improvements and projects, and savory kitchen creations.

Doug enjoyed fresh air activities, including touring in his Mustang. He loved animals, especially dogs, of which he had many.

Doug is predeceased by his parents, Carl and Dolores, sister, Roberta Zerrahn, and brother, Jim.

Doug is survived by his fiancée, Sandra VanDusen of Oneonta, and her loving family; his siblings Kevin (Mary) Hayes, Nancy Cinnamon, Bob (Judy) Hayes and Pat (Chris) Hayes; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, December 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Face masks are required.

Burial will be private in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to any animal shelter.
